The Koninginneweg
The street was named in 1888 after Queen Emma, the second wife of King William III, who, just before William’s death in 1890, took over the royal duties until 1898 as regent for their underage daughter, Wilhelmina. At that time the street was still situated in the municipality of Nieuwer-Amstel. After the annexation of this part of Nieuwer-Amstel in 1896 the street kept its name.
